I downloaded the latest 64-bit Windows 10 driver from the DNP support site and set it up.
This tray is far more substantial than the flimsy plastic tray on the Mitsubishi CP-D90DW. To complete the assembly, you take the metal output tray and attach it to the RX1HS by inserting its two bent tabs into slots in the front of the printer. It's not as easy as snapping ink cartridges into place, but you can get the hang of it quickly. Then you take the ink rollers and set them in their receptacles, winding the ink ribbon until it is taut. Then you can set the paper roll in the place designed for it, and pull the paper under the cutter, until you hear a beep. You open the printer by pulling a latch at the top front, which lets the bay for the paper and ink swing down. To set the printer up, you push the two included plastic end caps onto the ends of the paper roll-our test unit came with two 700-print rolls-until they snap into place. Getting the paper roll seated and the paper threaded, and the ink rollers-two plastic spools with an inked film stretching between them and mostly wrapped around one of the spools-is a little tricky, and not well illustrated in the printer's documentation, but I managed to get it up and running on the first try. Setting up the RX1HS is a bit more involved than with consumer-oriented photo printers. Based on my 10-print test run at default quality settings, extrapolated over an hour, that is correct (I got 291)-while Mitsubishi says of its CP-D90DW that it can continuously print up to 450 4-by-6 photos in an hour. According to DNP, it can produce approximately 290 4-by-6 prints per hour. The DS-RX1HS doesn't have quite the speed and durability of some rivals, though. More important is that it can handle workloads that would destroy a consumer photo printer in short order.

The difference between professional dedicated photo printers like the RX1HS and consumer-level models like the Editors' Choice Canon Selphy CP1200 Wireless Compact Photo Printer isn't just the higher price and better speed.
Paper rolls are available in two sizes (4-by-6 inches and 6-by-8 inches), each of which can produce two different size prints-the 4-by-6 paper can produce 2-by-6 prints as well, and the 6-by-8 can make 5-by-7s. Instead of using individual paper sheets, it employs paper rolls placed on a spool within the printer. The RX1HS uses the thermal dye sublimation printing technique, which provides a relatively low cost per print, and (generally) good print quality. As is the case with other high-volume thermal dye photo printers we have reviewed, the RX1HS has a boxy and utilitarian feel to it, which is fine because this machine is all business. In front, on the left side, are four lights, marked Power, Ribbon, Paper, and Error. There are no physical controls on the printer, other than the on-off switch in back, which is located next to a USB 2.0 port, the RX1HS's only means of connectivity. Like similar models, the RX1HS lacks an LCD the printer is controlled exclusively through a computer.
Still, it feels surprisingly heavy considering its compact frame. With a tan exterior, the RX1HS measures 11 by 12.6 by 13.8 inches (HWD) and weighs just under 30 pounds, a typical weight for a high-volume dedicated photo printer. (Don't be fooled by the manufacturer's list price it can be had for less than half that.) It doesn't quite have the speed of similar printers like the DNP DP-DS620A or the Editors' Choice Mitsubishi CP-D90DW, and its running costs are a bit higher, but it has fine print quality and is a worthy printer with relatively low up-front costs. The DNP DS-RX1HS ($1,399 list) is a relatively low-price representative of that ilk. Heavy-duty thermal-dye photo printers are a boon for event photographers, photo-kiosk operators, and others whose livelihoods depend on their ability to produce a lot of high-quality prints in a hurry.
